The Governor of the ||Kharas Region, Dawid Gertze, has vowed non-interference in internal traditional issues but assured intervention when the need arises.
He made the remarks while addressing traditional leaders from the ||Kharas and Hardap regions during a legal framework training workshop in Keetmanshoop.
The legal framework training aims to empower traditional leaders with skills and knowledge to implement the legal framework and laws governing traditional authorities.
It is facilitated by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.
In a speech read on his behalf by the governor, Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa urged the traditional leaders to foster peace and welfare in the communities they served.
Furthermore, the minister reminded traditional leaders to ensure their communities adhere to customary laws while promoting and preserving culture, language, and traditional values as well as advancing affirmative action and equality.
The minister also expressed concern over disputes within traditional authorities sowing division among communities.
These internal strifes, he added, also hinder the community's development and progress.
Minister Sankwasa called for greater tolerance and respect for customary laws.
Also addressing the traditional leaders was the |Kharas Regional Council Chairperson.
Seven traditional authorities participated in the training workshop.
