The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani, has encouraged farmers to embrace new farming practices that will help realise the full potential of Namibia’s agricultural sector.

She also urged livestock farmers to take advantage of various platforms available to improve their farming methods.

Zaamwani made these remarks during the handover of five 30-tonne trucks with trailers and five portable loading ramps, valued at N$20.68 million. These were acquired under the Livestock Support Programme in the Northern Communal Areas (NCAs), funded through the European Development Fund.

This handover, Zaamwani said, marks an important milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to transform communal livestock farming by addressing the challenges many farmers continue to face.

The initiative further aligns with the goals set out in the Namibia Agriculture Policy and the 6th National Development Plan.

The five trucks will be operated by Meatco for use in the Northern Communal Areas, including all NCA abattoirs located in the Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, Zambezi, Kavango East, and Kavango West regions.
