Usakos is poised to become one of Namibia's most digitally advanced towns, following the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding between Telecom Namibia and the Usakos Town Council.
Officiating the event, Erongo Governor Nathalia |Goagoses stated that the agreement paves the way for the town's transformation into a smart city driven by technology, connectivity, and innovation.
This partnership, |Goagoses explained, will deliver high-speed internet and digital infrastructure, enabling smarter public services, efficient utility management, and better access to online education and business opportunities.
Usakos' strategic location along the Walvis Bay Corridor positions it to benefit from improved logistics and tourism potential.
|Goagoses emphasised that the project supports the nation's broader development agenda by fostering inclusive growth, attracting investment, and preparing communities for the digital economy.
"We are here to formalise and witness a partnership that we believe will transform this historic town into a modern and connected smart city. It can be done, and it's happening today. Implementation will follow soon, but what does it mean to be a city? It means more than digital infrastructure; it means high quality of life, it means greater opportunities in terms of economic, educational, and social aspects, and it means building a connected, future-ready community."
Also speaking at the event were the chairperson of the Namibia Standard Institute, Paul Kalenga, and the town's mayor, Irene Simeon-Kurtz.
