The Rooidaghek Primary School in the Tsumkwe constituency has expressed gratitude to the Namibian Fish Consumption Trust (NFCT) for the recent donation of fish.
While welcoming the gesture, the teachers raised concerns about the living conditions of their learners and appealed for more assistance from different companies or donors.
The NFCT gave 270 kg of horse mackerel and 792 canned fish valued at over N$30,000 to the school with a population of 262 learners.
The donation is expected to bolster the school feeding programme and ensure that learners stay nourished and ready to learn.
Thanking the trust was Asser Hakuria, principal of the Rooidaghek Primary School.
The school also needs a properly constructed permanent structure to serve as a hostel.
The current makeshift structure accommodating the learners was constructed in 2022 by the community to house the children closer to school, who otherwise were walking more than 5 km to the school.
With no formal hostel facilities available, teachers, school board members, and parents joined efforts to build a temporary room structure to accommodate the learners during the school week.
It caters for 30 learners, both boys and girls.
The school is now appealing to private sector support to help build a permanent and safer accommodation for the learners.
