The three accused arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday on corruption charges related to a Zambezi Waterfront tender made their first court appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The accused are the Chief Regional Officer, Regina Ndopu Lubinda, Linyanti Constituency Councillor, Iven Kabunga and Solo Mutelo a teacher at Katima Mulilo Combined School, on charges involving a N$1,2 million tender.

Lubinda who is a member of the Zambezi Waterfront, faces more than 55 corruption and alternative charges, while the two co-accused face more than ten charges.

The charges include corruptly using the office for gratification, organised crime, conspiracy to commit crime, forgery and altering.

Lubinda awarded a de-bushing tender to Mutelo's company and another tender to disinfect bungalows on the waterfront.

Money was paid into Mutelo's company account and transferred to the councilor, hence a charge of money laundering.

All the accused were granted bail of50 thousand dollars each by the court after the state proposed 100 thousand dollar bail.

The court ordered that the case for all accused be transferred to the Oshakati High Court as decided by the Prosecutor General.

The accused will now appear in the Oshakati High Court on 15 October.
Additional bail conditions are that the accused do not interfere with investigations or witnesses and that they do not commit similar offences while out on bail.
