The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) is in Lusaka, Zambia, for the 74th Airports Council International Africa's board and committee meetings, regional conference, and exhibition.

The Namibian delegation is connecting, sharing ideas and building partnerships that will drive Africa's aviation industry forward.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an organisation of airport authorities that regulates industry practices and airport standards.

Major programmes include safety enhancement and Airport Service Quality Awards, based on passenger satisfaction ratings.

Other initiatives cover economics, operational security, carbon accreditation, and passenger transportation.

NAC is participating in the international conference, and Leonard Shipuata, the Executive of Airport Operations at the NAC, explained why Namibia's participation at the gathering was so crucial. "Because basically this is where we present our commitment to collaborate with other airports, and as we speak today, the conference has just started; it started particularly as committees. Today, Namibia is participating in the environment committee, where we are exploring ways to enhance environmental services at our airport and contribute significantly to achieving a zero net target for carbon emissions and other environmental measures."

The event next door is perfectly timed for the Namibian Airports Company's risk management and quality assurance efforts.

"The concentration was on the business continuity plan, which plays a critical role in terms of the risk management plan. NAC, being a company that takes care of emergencies at the airport, continuity becomes a very critical aspect, and the information that we got here and the lessons from the other airports in terms of how they have done it are going to be valuable from the NAC's perspective."

This powerhouse group is crafting bold policy positions on facilitation, service quality and cutting-edge technology.
