The Arts Performance Centre, based in Tsuemb, has been collaborating with Tautiko Shine Private School in Onyanya Village to provide specialised support for students facing developmental challenges.

The primary focus of this intervention has been music therapy, aimed at stimulating memory and engaging students’ minds. The school director, Tautiko Shikongo, emphasised that the school had procured a specialised sound therapy session to promote emotional and physical well-being among learners.

“Together with teachers and parents, we identified students who would benefit from this specialised therapy. We arranged for sound healing sessions to be conducted throughout the week, and it’s heartening to see how happy the students are after each session,” said Shikongo.

According to Dr. Robert Sango from the Arts Performance Centre, the music therapy involves the use of various musical sounds on a sound bed, accompanied by soothing classical instrumental music in the background.

“Sound therapy is a clinical approach that uses music to help individuals achieve specific goals. It can also be highly beneficial within educational settings,” stated Dr. Sango.

Tautiko Shine Private School caters to students from Grade 1 to Grade 7. The school strives for self-sustainability, maintaining its garden, along with goats and chickens, which supply fresh produce and eggs to the school’s hostel.
