The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, is pleased with the progress made by the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) on the upgrading of the Trans Kalahari One Stop Border Post project.
The project aims to enhance trade facilitation.
Speaking at the Trans Kalahari Border Post, Nekundi stressed that the commitment and dedication shown by all parties involved is commendable, as it eases the movement of people and goods.
This move will also improve and strengthen border control operations and activities into a single point, eventually fostering greater efficiency between countries.
"Buildings look to be very much useable quality when one observes, and I'm confident that the design and the layout will enable a seamless flow of the goods and persons traversing through our premises as services we are renting, as one would appreciate. And one will also appreciate how much work they are currently undertaking now and how much work is left before the contractor hands over the keys to the infrastructure, and one will also appreciate the budget – how much was it and how much is being used, and are we still within budget? That is very important. I think that is one thing I would like to appreciate."
Namibia Revenue Agency Commissioner Sam Shivute pointed out that the budget has not been a problem during the upgrading process, citing that support from various local stakeholders was also outstanding.
Commissioner Shivute added that most work is done in terms of terminals, scanner facilities, bypass roads and staff accommodation.
"The most important thing is to make things happened is to be decisive because we say the decision was taken in 2009 or 2010 but only 2023 we happened to have this and I think is just by matter of time and the political leader have done what they were supposed to do the technocrats must make things happened, I think to me were we stand and speaking on behalf of all the members of the steering committee and all those who have been on this project is that we are very happy and we were there when our current president and the former president they agreed on this and that was 2022 September but already in 2023 this infrastructures are her we are done and is delivered in the record time like it was mention and I think is a great inspiration and we will continue serving."
The One Stop Trans-Kalahari Border Post project is set to be officially inaugurated next month.
