Ghana’s President John Mahama has assured President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah that the ideals of total emancipation of the African continent remain central to Ghana’s vision, as articulated by the country’s founding leader, Kwame Nkrumah.

After Ghana’s independence in 1957, Nkrumah declared that the freedom of one African country was meaningless until the entire continent was liberated from colonial rule.

Ghana went on to support liberation movements across Africa, including the Swapo Party of Namibia.

Presidents Mahama and Nandi-Ndaitwah reflected on this legacy and emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between their countries during a courtesy meeting on the margins of the UN General Assembly.
