Some parents with children attending Gabriel Muhuli Combined School at Sambyu, Kavango East Region, say they will keep their children away from school because the school environment is dangerous.

The children did not attend school on Monday and Tuesday.

Parents are currently meeting at the school, expressing their dissatisfaction with its condition.

Some of their concerns include numerous exposed electrical wires on the school grounds.

An entire class block is not being used because the roof was blown off and is now in a dilapidated state, posing a risk to the children.

The pit latrines used by learners are also full and in poor condition.

One particular classroom has bats living in the roof, and the class needs to be cleaned every morning before lessons start due to bat excrement.

Over the weekend, one of the tents serving as a classroom was destroyed by heavy winds, which prompted the parents to decide that enough was enough.

The school board says it has sent numerous letters to the Ministry of Education over the years, but all they have allegedly received were empty promises.
