President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on member states to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter.

In her maiden address to the UN General Assembly, she reaffirmed Namibia's support for promoting peace, security, and human rights worldwide.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation in tackling urgent global challenges such as climate change and socioeconomic inequality.

The President assured the General Assembly of Namibia's unwavering commitment to international law and peaceful coexistence, highlighting the United Nations' enduring legacy spanning over eight decades.

"Therefore, the international community must honour the brave men and women who, under the blue flag, have been at the forefront of securing world peace. Namibia's journey to independence is one of the UN's greatest success stories. It was through this very organisation that our forebearers tirelessly petitioned for the end of apartheid colonial rule in Namibia, for the freedom and independence of our people."

Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that Namibia's 6th National Development Plan, with its core pillars, is fully aligned with global agendas, including the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan, the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

"Some of our achievements include the launch and operationalisation of a National Youth Fund to support young entrepreneurs. In the area of education, we will abolish registration and tuition fees in all public institutions of higher learning and vocational training centres."

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah also announced Namibia's bid to host the African Regional Hub of the Green Climate Fund.

She said the move comes as the country faces severe droughts, floods, and other climate-related disasters that demand collective action.

"Youth unemployment, rising economic inequality, lack of adequate housing, quality education and healthcare, and water and energy shortages, as well as debt distress, are among the challenges no country can address alone."

The Namibian Head of State urged UN member states to build a future rooted in the preservation of human dignity.
