The Body of Christ Party (BCP) has agreed with the urgent need to pass the Land Bill as a first step toward addressing landlessness in Namibia.

BCP President Festus Thomas shared the party's position on this and several other matters following a consultative meeting with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and senior leadership at State House.

He stated that tabling of the Bill is timely, given the eagerness of all stakeholders to tackle socio-economic challenges.

The Land Bill, if passed into law, seeks to address key issues surrounding communal and commercial agricultural land, with a strong emphasis on equitable access and sustainable management.

"As a member of the committee on Urban and Rural Development working on the Land Bill, I believe that our numerous site visits as Parliament indicate that passing this Bill will solve many problems. I think the Bill is at the right time, and what we have to do is to pass it so that the government is given a chance to assist the community."

During the consultative meeting, President Nandi-Ndaitwah reiterated the Executive's appeal to lawmakers to urgently pass legislation aimed at enhancing service delivery.

"As you know, our duty in the Executive is clear: we must execute and initiate laws and policies. We would appreciate it if you took them seriously once we present them to Parliament. Thank you for noting our policy on disability when it was introduced. We now have several important laws at Parliament, including the Land Bill and the amendment to PEGA. Soon, you will also have the Investment Bill, which is critical, and the Petroleum Act, which will enable us to take action. Therefore, we are eager to work quickly."
