The National Council started its 17th and final session of the 6th term, bringing the 2020-2025 tenure to a close.
Its Chairperson, Lukas Muha, has outlined the main agenda and priorities for the session.
"During this session, we are expected to deliberate on the Appropriation Amendment Bill, a matter of national significance. Our debate on this bill should reflect our collective commitment to prudent financial management and developmental imperatives. In addition, we shall also give due consideration to the reports of the Standing Committees and Inter-Parliamentary Organs. These reports reflect the diligent oversight, policy scrutiny and stakeholder engagements that define the work of this Council during 2025/2026."
Muha highlighted the role of the 6th National Council in legislative scrutiny, regional representation, and the law-making process.
He called on members to maintain debates that serve the national interest and uphold constitutional principles.
"Let us think of the helpless nations that are affected by the scourge of war caused by other nations. This country is in our hands; everything we do in or outside the chamber must be within the realm of our constitutional law. Our debates must continue to embody inclusivity and national interest. Let this final sitting be a testament to our commitment to the Namibian people and the enduring legacy of this Council."
