The Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Emma Kantema, officially handed over Early Childhood Development kits to the Chief Xaai ECD Centre at Farm Uitkoms.
The centre, located in the Otjozondjupa Region, becomes the first beneficiary in the country's latest distribution phase aimed at strengthening early learning across marginalised communities.
The government, in collaboration with UNICEF, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, and with support of the European Union, procured 1,552 ECD kits, valued at more than N$5.5 million.
Dr. Kantema said the initiative ensures that every Namibian child has access to quality early learning opportunities, regardless of their background or circumstances.
"Ours is always to ensure that that foundation of the early learning stage is properly resourced, you have the necessary tools, and the educators are provided with the necessary training to ensure that we provide quality early learning opportunities."
The minister applauded Palms For Life for constructing the state-of-the-art centre in 2023, which will continue to serve children in a safe and supportive environment.
Each kit contains tools for play, art, storytelling and expressive learning. The handover also included non-perishable supplies, hygiene items and caregiver guides designed to nurture health and social interaction.
Educators at the centre say the assistance will go a long way in improving teaching capacity and strengthening early learning outcomes as children transition into formal schooling.
As distribution continues to all fourteen regions, the government believes sustained support will contribute to building resilient communities and better futures for every Namibian child.
