The Otjinene Village Council is rolling out the prepaid water meter system and electrifying in partnership with Cenored.

The Chairperson of the Otjinene Village Council, Tjatomuini Katjatenja, explained prepaid water meters will be installed in all households at Otjinene to ensure that everyone has potable water, control over their bills and help the council to collect revenue.

It will also ease the pressure from the council to settle debts owed to Namwater. 

"The purpose of this is for the revenue collection and promote responsible water use to ensure that we have equitable water access to the all households , thirdly as we know that otjinene is developing stop by step wee have to upgrade our roads as one of our priority also and we redoing to take phase four of our road upgrade that is covering 0,3 km of our gravel road to upgrade to low volume bitumen standard."

Another project is electrification of more than fifty houses.

"We have approved housing for low-income beneficiaries around N$600,000 that we should cater for the decentralisation build together programme also in addition the council has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) to develop middle to high-income housing to cater for all income groups."

The council will also launch a strategic plan later this year outlining possible future development.
