The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has revealed that it has detected 316 cases of fraudulent claims or forged documents over the past four years, worth a combined N$1 billion.
The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has warned local authorities that fail to submit audited financial statements, collect outstanding revenue, and improve service delivery that they should not expect government bailouts or funds.
Taxpayers owe the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRa) a staggering N$ 90 billion accumulated over the years.
NamRA's Chief of Strategic Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, and Taxpayer Education, Yarukeekuro Steven Ndorokaze, described it as a historic debt.
Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah, accompanied by the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA)'s Commissioner Sam Shivute, paid a visit to the tax authority's office at Oshikango in the Ohangwena Region.
The visit was aimed at encouraging officials to continue serving the nation diligently.
