The Rehoboth Enhancement for Housing & Opportunities (REHO) Association promised to use its mandate to enhance transparency and accountability in managing the affairs of the Rehoboth Town Council.
Speaking at a public engagement, the association's chief representative, David Isaacks, said REHO seeks to enter into a social contract with the residents of Rehoboth.
Isaacks asserted that REHO aims to reduce unnecessary expenditures on subsistence and travel allowances, which are detrimental to the town's progress, especially given the town's mounting debt.
"We are running a bankrupt Rehoboth Town Council because of neglect when it comes to financial management, so once we have a sound financial town, we can start participating in the conversations to develop our town."
The Chief Representative further stressed that transparency will be the hallmark of REHO's administration.
"Our intent as the Resident Enhancement for Housing & Opportunities is to utilise every mandate available to transform our town, not just certain mandates, not certain verses in the bible of the local authorities."
Also speaking at the occasion, Karl Heinz Motoun said the change does not lie with the association but with the community's participation.
On the issue of rampant alcohol and drug abuse in the town, the association is intent on introducing regulations as one of its initiatives.
Five political parties and three residents' associations will compete for three constituency seats as well as for positions on the Rehoboth town council.
