As the nation celebrates Christmas, Vice President Lucia Witbooi urges Namibians to embrace compassion, unity, and responsible behaviour.

In her Christmas Day message, Witbooi described the festive season as a time for families and communities to reflect on the birth of Jesus and the enduring values of hope, love, and salvation. 

The Vice President called on citizens to renew their commitment to timeless principles, such as forgiveness, generosity, and service to others.

She encouraged Namibians to express the spirit of giving, not only through material gifts, but also through kindness, understanding and reconciliation.

Witbooi placed particular emphasis on caring for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, children in need and families facing hardship. 

She noted that even small acts of kindness can restore dignity and bring comfort during the festive season.

The Vice President also appealed for responsible celebrations, warning against alcohol abuse, reckless behaviour, and actions that undermine the well-being of individuals and society. 

She also emphasised the importance of looking out for each other and seeking support when faced with emotional or psychological distress. "As a nation, we must commit ourselves to improving social behaviours so that every Namibian can live in dignity, safety, and hope. On this occasion, let us also remain mindful of those who are on duty, including our security forces, health workers, emergency personnel, and essential service providers. We thank them for their dedication and service to the nation."

The Vice President wished Namibians a peaceful Christmas filled with joy and renewed hope and called on the nation to carry forward the values of forgiveness, tolerance, unity and love into the new year.
