The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism's Chief Public Relations Officer, Vilho Hangula, has confirmed that the roaming elephant spotted at Oshivelo in the North Central area is still at large.

Hangula said a team from the ministry is on the ground, actively monitoring the elephant under the supervision of Chief Warden Petrus Nangolo.

In the meantime, the ministry is engaging communities in the surrounding areas to raise awareness about the presence of the elephant and to encourage residents to take necessary safety precautions.

A single bull elephant was sighted last week inside the Oshivelo airstrip area.

Community members are strongly advised to remain vigilant and cautious, as the elephant is reported to be aggressive.

Residents are further urged to immediately report any sightings of the elephant to the nearest police station or a nature conservation officer.

For safety reasons, community members are advised to avoid areas where the elephant has been sighted until further notice or until the animal has moved out of the vicinity.

Meanwhile, the ministry has cautioned tourists that five roads in the Okaukuejo and Ombika areas remain inaccessible due to the heavy rains received last week.

The affected roads are Wolfness Pan View, Leeubron, Ombika Detour, Gaseb Detour and Aus–Ondongab Road.

Motorists are urged to adhere to park rules and regulations to avoid inconvenience during their visits.
