A family of twelve in Kalkfeld, whose house was blown off by heavy rains and strong winds, has received assistance.
The house belongs to a pensioner, Violine Tjandero.
Several household items were damaged as heavy rains and strong winds tore the roof open, allowing rainwater to pour into the house.
Tjandero stated, "When the incident occurred, I had gone to another house for Christmas dinner, and upon my return, I was devastated to see my house damaged, especially because I have a child who uses crutches."
Following the incident, the Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Paulus Nekundi, and the community members from Otjiwarongo intervened to provide immediate assistance.
"When I came here, it was really bad because I found out about a lot of children. It's a family of 12, and it's really touched my heart, so I went out to appeal to the community members so we could put some sense together to see what we can do. I ask the official from the settlement office to help me measure the building."
Following the measurement of the building, the official brought materials, including 16 corrugated iron sheets and cement.
The councillor expressed concern over the impact of ongoing heavy rains on households in the constituency and urged continued community support as heavy rains are expected to continue.
The family is grateful for the assistance, though more support is still needed to complete the repairs.
