Over 70 Namibians remain stranded in Angola following a trip advertised as a 14-day festive season getaway.

Group members told NBC News they were promised accommodation, daily activities, and three meals per day.

Each person paid N$5,000 in cash for the trip, an all-inclusive amount.

The group was also asked to make advance payments so the organisers could convert Namibian dollars into Angolan kwanza for amenities.

Travellers said more than N$70,000 was collected for this purpose, but some never received their money back. No promised activities occurred, forcing them to fund their own and causing additional financial distress.

The trip was organised by Viago Booking, with a Namibian representative identified only as Michael. The Angolan representative was Walter Mucungui, accompanied by two Namibian women.

Travellers said arrangements collapsed shortly after crossing into Angola.

Organisers could not provide answers on accommodation, meals, or transport. "We learnt that our accommodation was not paid for and that it was not what was promised in the advertisement," said one stranded individual.

The group has approached the Namibian Embassy in Angola for assistance.

Embassy officials advised them to open a police case, but a language barrier made reporting to Angolan authorities difficult.

Only two members have returned to Namibia due to medical reasons, using self-funded flights.

The remaining travellers are stuck after their return bus ran out of fuel in Benguela, with no means to get home. They remain uncertain about further return arrangements.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the organisers were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
