Zambian authorities have called upon the Congolese authorities to strengthen road patrols along commonly used truck routes to enhance safety.
The appeal comes after reports of some missing foreign truck drivers and one left dead, allegedly after an attack.
It is reported that Zambian and Tanzanian truck drivers discovered abandoned and ransacked trucks.
The whereabouts of the drivers was unknown, and those who shared the footage said they were survivors of the attacks.
They reported that the perpetrators got away with all their belongings, including food rations and allowances.
Truck drivers have now resorted to boycotting the Congo route until the concerns are addressed.
The President of the Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia, Givers Moonga, confirmed the reports of missing truck drivers.
Zambian truck driver Joseph Chivanga is one of the foreign drivers who went missing in DRC, and his body was later found in a mortuary without any trace of how it got there.
The body of Chivanga was received by Zambia's Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, and the family at the Sankania Border.
Tayali said his government stands in solidarity with truck drivers and the transport and logistics sector and assures them of the government's continued support and concern for their welfare.
He urged drivers to remain vigilant and united and to look out for one another while on duty and commended them for exercising restraint and maintaining peace despite the circumstances.
The two governments are expected to meet to look into the matter.
