Venezuela's interim President, Delcy Rodríguez, says the country has the right to peace, development, sovereignty and a future.

In a statement issued on her social media platforms, Rodríguez said Venezuela aspires to live without external threats, in an environment of respect and international cooperation.

She stressed that Venezuela prioritises moving towards balanced and respectful international relations with the United States and other countries in the region, premised on sovereign equality and non-interference.

"This has always been President Nicolás Maduro's message, and it is the message of all of Venezuela right now," said Rodríguez.

Rodríguez further called on the U.S. government to collaborate with Venezuela on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development within the framework of international law.

Rodríguez, who has served under Maduro as vice-president since 2018, was sworn in as interim president following the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro by the U.S. on Saturday.

She has, in the meantime, instituted a commission to seek the release of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
