Namibia condemns sidelining of Palestine by UN Security Council

Namibia has called for the immediate reform of the United Nations Security Council to address inequity and injustice, reflect present realities, and ensure the legitimacy of its decisions.

This follows the recent failure by the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution granting the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations.

NDF urged to protect the country's peace

President Nangolo Mbumba has urged members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) to guard the country against elements that want to destabilise peace.
                                                                                                                   
Dr. Mbumba, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the NDF, was speaking at the pass-out parade of 148 officer cadets following the completion of a regular commissioning course at Rundu. 

SADC region, despite peaceful outlook, faces security challenges

While the southern African region remains peaceful and stable, there are still security challenges in some parts of the SADC that require an effective response.

Promoting peace and security within the SADC region topped the agenda at the Extra Ordinary Troika Summit in Lusaka, Zambia.

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was among the attendees.

The Troika took stock and tracked progress on the situation in the Cabo Delgado province of northern Mozambique as well as the northern Kivu province in eastern DRC, marred by instability over the years. 

SADC Mission in Mozambique reports significant success in liberating terrorist-held territories

Since the deployment of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique in July last year, the mission has significantly facilitated the liberation of territories from the hands of terrorists.

The Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council for November, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, shared this during a virtual meeting of the SADC Ministers on the Peace and Security Council.

The virtual meeting deliberated on the security situation in the province of Cabo Delgado, which has come under frequent violent attacks by local armed groups since 2017.

Zambians urged to cherish freedom, peace the country enjoys

President Hage Geingob has urged Zambians to guard and cherish the freedom and peace the country has been enjoying for the past 58 years.

Dr Geingob was the guest speaker at this year's independence anniversary held at State House in the capital, Lusaka.

He says Zambia's independence was crucial as it inspired liberation movements in southern Africa to fight the colonial occupations of their motherland.

In his address, Dr Geingob says it is now time to translate that freedom into prosperity as espoused in the continental agenda 2063.

AU Commission Chairperson urges Africa to curb foreign aid and stimulate peace

The Chairperson of the African Union says Africa must create wealth amongst its people as a tool to curb foreign aid and stimulate peace.

Moussa Faki Mahamat says the need to embrace African ideas on issues facing the continent is also critical to attaining transformation across all spheres of life.

Mahamat also raised concern about the unconstitutional seizure of political power in Africa, saying although success has been achieved in restoring peace across Africa, concerns still exist.

President Geingob calls on Namibians, SADC region citizens to nurture culture of peace and stability

President Hage Geingob is calling on Namibians and the citizens of the SADC region at large to nurture and intensify a culture of peace and stability.

Dr Geingob's call comes as the world marks the United Nations International Day of Non-Violence on the 2nd of October.

The day, which is also the birthday of the Indian anti-colonialist leader, Mahatma Gandhi, is an occasion to disseminate the message of non-violence through education and public awareness and reaffirm the desire for a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence.
