Africa’s heritage sites are said to be facing a number of challenges from insufficient documentation, poor management, climate change and other uncontrolled illicit activities.

It is for this reason that a workshop aimed at identifying digital technologies that can be used in safeguarding the world’s natural and cultural heritage is underway in Windhoek.

The World Heritage Digital Technology workshop will explore how emerging digital tools and innovative technologies can strengthen the conservation and management practices of world heritage sites.

The workshop will also build capacity for harnessing emerging technologies for the conservation, protection, and promotion of world heritage in Africa.

This will be done by looking at digital technologies such as geographic information systems, geospatial and remote sensing tools, 3D scanning, drones and mobile applications, among others.
