The Chairperson of the ||Kharas Regional Council, Gerrit Witbooi, has called on councillors to unite for service delivery during the regional council's official opening.

Witbooi told the councillors that real service delivery will only happen if they put their differences aside and work together to bring service delivery to the communities across the region.

"The new leadership, together with Gaob, is ready to work with anyone, but let the past remain in the past. Unfortunately, that is how it must be. We are here for a new beginning. Every person who enters this office comes with their own political background, but you are here to leave a new legacy, and only you can shape the legacy."

||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze shared similar sentiments.

"We are not going to entertain old complaints; we need to remain and need to renew our spirit and change our attitudes, be purpose-driven and result-oriented. We just don't want to tick off box actions that have been completed; we want to see the impact of what we do. That should be the driving force behind us to make an impact and change in our communities. We must change the livelihoods of our people; that's our call, and that's our mandate."

The Acting Chief Regional Officer, Ralph Sachika, delivered the strategic priorities for the year.

These include improving service delivery and development across the region; infrastructure upgrades; economic development; youth empowerment; climate resilience; and strengthening governance.

"We will improve service delivery; we will strengthen our efforts to ensure all service delivery reaches all communities, especially in remote areas. This includes timely implementations of developing projects, improved maintenance of infrastructure and closer coordination with line ministries and a focus on local authorities as well."

Sachika further added that development is a shared responsibility, and the success of development in the region will depend on the collaboration between traditional authorities, regional authorities and local authorities.
