As the year comes to an end, Futsal Namibia reflects on a season of steady progress, marked by competitive action, grassroots development, and growing interest in the fast-paced indoor game across the country.
Throughout the year, Futsal Namibia focused on building the game from the ground up, strengthening structures at both grassroots and elite levels.
From local leagues to national tournaments, players were given more opportunities to compete, improve, and showcase their talent.
Domestic competitions played a key role in nurturing emerging players, while regional engagements helped raise playing standards and offered valuable exposure to athletes, coaches, and match officials alike.
"Looking at how we can expand futsal into at least one more region, currently it is only in the Khomas Region, specifically in Windhoek. The coastal towns, such as Walvis Bay or Swakopmund, could be alternatives for expansion. We also want to introduce futsal into schools to ensure continuous development, feeding talent into the leagues we currently have as well as the national teams" Greyano Rusberg said.
Off the court, the federation also invested in the development of coaches and referees, recognising that a strong technical foundation is essential for the long-term growth and quality of the sport.
Despite the challenges that often come with developing sporting codes, Futsal Namibia remained resilient.
Stakeholders continued to drive participation, with a strong focus on sustainability and positioning futsal as an important pathway for football development, especially among the youth.
"We are also looking at expanding across different age groups. Currently, we only have the Premier League and First Division, but we are planning to introduce a Women's League. We are exploring ways to strengthen development for both boys and girls, including forming partnerships to create platforms through the Women's Super League and introducing futsal in schools" Greyano Rusberg said.
With the season now wrapped up, Futsal Namibia looks ahead with renewed determination, aiming to expand competitions, strengthen partnerships, and build on the positive momentum in the year to come.
