A delegation from northern Namibia, comprising four governors who share common borders with Angola, has concluded a week-long visit to the neighbouring country.

Ohangwena's Kadiva Hamutumwa, Oshana's Hofni Iipinge, Kunene's Vipueakuje Muharukua and Omusati's Immanuel Shikongo were on a quest to exchange knowledge and experience in the specialised production of maize and wheat seeds, as well as to forge partnerships in order to develop their regions.

The governors were joined by experts in the Namibian agricultural sector, who saw them visit key agricultural projects in Huila and Cunene Provinces.

The group, in pursuit of opportunities in the agricultural sector, got firsthand experience pertaining to the advancements made in Angola during their visit.

Head of delegation Hofni Iipinge says Namibia and Angola share close ties and that the two countries can capitalise on the opportunities in the agricultural sector, especially because they share common borders, enabling the fast tracking of the full potential not only in the agricultural sector but also in key sectors such as fisheries and tourism, amongst others.

Before their departure on Sunday, the team met up with the deputy governor for the political, economic and social sector for the Cunene Province, Apolo Ndinoulenga, to brief him on their engagements.

"We are pleased to inform you that we carried out our duties optimally during the week and have really gained insightful knowledge on your agricultural sector, which has really advanced and has resulted in the creation of job opportunities in both urban and rural areas. We will be coming back in order to pen down the areas of possible cooperation that we can forge between the two countries, especially those that speak to the needs of our various regions," expressed Iipinge.

Ndinoulenga has thanked the Namibian delegation for initiating talks with his country, stating that the two governments should not relent in forging partnerships for the benefit of their people.

"We are really thankful, especially that the two borders are now open for our nations, amplifying trade and cooperation. We look forward to entering tangible agreements."
