Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus has expressed disappointment over reports that some individuals are misleading traditional leaders in the Kunene Region by claiming that the ministry’s network tower expansion coverage efforts are intended to grab land.
Theofelus clarified that the expansion of network coverage is a national priority and is being implemented across all regions to ensure that people, particularly those in rural and remote areas, have access to reliable communication.
She emphasised that improved network coverage plays a critical role in saving lives, explaining that it enables a mother or guardian to quickly contact someone with a vehicle to transport a sick child to a health facility in an emergency.
According to the minister, network availability also allows communities to report crimes and reach the nearest authorities promptly during emergencies, rather than travelling long distances on foot or by vehicle to seek help or report urgent matters.
Theofelus further announced that on Friday, she will officially launch a Universal Service Fund (USF) tower at Ehomba in the Epupa Constituency of the Kunene Region, as part of ongoing efforts to improve connectivity in underserved communities.
