Oikango and surrounding villages to get a network tower 


Oikango and surrounding villages within the Ongwediva Constituency of Oshana Region will receive a network tower after many years of being without proper network connectivity in the area.

The community has been without a proper network, which has left them behind in terms of information and communication technology (ICT), despite the country urging people to make use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in their daily lives to attain the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

MICT conducts information sharing session at Opuwo


The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, says the engagement with public sector communicators and information sharing session held at Opuwo are meant to accelerate information dissemination between institutions of government and communities.

Theofelus urged the public to ensure that they visit the stands to be empowered with the right information and be up-to-date with government programmes.

NamPol Lt. Gen. on familiarisation visit Kunene Region 


The Inspector General of the Police is in the Kunene Region to engage the communities and assess their needs. 

While there, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo will share with the communities the role of law enforcement agencies in society.

The communities informed Shikongo about the need for police stations in various areas while also expressing their concern about an increase in alcohol and drug abuse, stock theft, and gender-based violence.

Shikongo noted that the community must collaborate with the police to mitigate crimes in the region.

Deputy ICT Minister urges staff to ensure tangible impact nationwide


The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Modestus Amutse, has urged the staff members of the ministry to ensure that their services and work have a tangible impact throughout the country, including at the grassroots level.

 Amutse made these remarks while addressing the staff members of Oshana Region.

GIPF opens new office at Outapi


The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) continues to bring services closer to the people, and residents of Outapi and surrounding areas now have service at their doorsteps.

The growth of the Omusati Region and Outapi, among others, is attributed to institutions such as the GIPF, which has heeded the call for decentralisation and set up offices outside Windhoek.

Impalila Island cries for help


The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, in response to concerns raised by residents of Impalila Island, noted that the Ministry is aware of the poor nbc reception on the island and other areas across the country.

Theofelus undertook a visit to Impalila Island to assess the situation at the nbc envisaged tower site and listen to the residents on the ground about what they were going through.

The Headwoman of Impalila Island, Kasimbi Matengu, raised concerns and hardships the people of Impalila face given the isolation of the island.

Similo made this remark during an update on the national broadcaster's readiness for the memorial and funeral services.

The Director-General says he has confidence in his teams and is positive that the national broadcaster will successfully cover the events.

MICT directed to spearhead national digital strategy and action plan


The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to spearhead a groundbreaking initiative, crafting a comprehensive national digital strategy and action plan.

Thus, the ministry, alongside key stakeholders in the digital realm, convened a pivotal validation workshop to fine-tune Namibia's National Digital Strategy, setting the stage for a transformative digital landscape.
