Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa has urged public servants and employees of public enterprises in the region to uphold ethical standards and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

Hamutumwa made the remarks during her annual engagement with public servants and employees of public enterprises held in Eenhana.

She stressed the importance of treating every citizen with dignity and respect regardless of their social or economic status, saying such an approach strengthens public trust and proves that effective service delivery is possible when institutions prioritise the needs of the people.

The governor called on officials to recommit themselves to professionalism, accountability, empathy and a results-orientated approach in carrying out their duties.

She also reminded public servants about the Namibian Public Service Charter, which outlines guiding principles for their conduct.

These include professionalism and ethical behaviour, transparency and accountability, efficiency and effectiveness, courtesy and respect, accessibility of services, and responsiveness to public needs.

Hamutumwa emphasised that public enterprises, although operating within commercial and corporate governance frameworks, are equally bound by the Public Service Charter because they exist to serve the public interest.

She further encouraged officials to use the Public Service Pocket Guide as a daily practical and ethical compass in executing their responsibilities.
