A farmer in the Kunene Region is urging individuals and organisations in the public and private sectors to invest in agricultural projects, highlighting farming's crucial role in food security and sustainable development.
Benny Ganuseb, a farmer in the Sesfontein area of the Kunene Region, benefited from the IREMA Project last year. The project, through which he received 180 banana trees, is a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environmental Investment Fund.
Having farmed for years at Doere Farm, Ganuseb is optimistic that with the necessary support, his dream of becoming a successful banana producer will come true.
His initial attempt at cultivating banana trees was successful, resulting in a harvest of 90 trees. However, subsequent planting efforts were unsuccessful. It was during this challenging period that Ganuseb received a second opportunity through the IREMA initiative, along with guidance from agricultural experts.
Once his farming business is fully operational, he plans on supplying bananas to school hostels and communities, building a sustainable business.
