A 31-year-old woman, Hilma Hiskia, has been remanded in custody by Magistrate Tuarirovangu Kasirua for allegedly killing her boyfriend’s 3-year-old daughter at Ohalumbebe village over the weekend. Her case was postponed to 16 June.

Hiskia faces a charge of murder, read with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act.

State Prosecutor Elizabeth Hiyolwa opposed bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and the early stage of the investigation.

The incident occurred on Friday, 20 February, at Ohalumbele village in the Onesi Constituency.

It is alleged that the suspect entered her 59-year-old boyfriend's house, where the victim stayed. She went into the bedroom where the child was sleeping, took the victim, and carried her to a mahangu field, where she allegedly strangled her to death.

Hiskia then allegedly dumped the deceased’s body in nearby bushes.

The child’s father says the suspect is overly protective and thought he intended to reconcile with the child’s mother.

Police investigations continue.
