The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has urged social media users to promote respectful and responsible online engagement.
This follows the recent Ethical Use of Social Media Challenge - an initiative that brought together dozens of local influencers to encourage ethical online behaviour.
MICT's Acting Public Relations Officer Matty Kaminzi says around 60 content creators participated in the Ethical Use of Social Media Challenge and pledged to promote credible and responsible content to their followers.
The competition support and encourage ethical content creation.
"The campaign aims to promote the responsible and ethical use of social media, encouraging people to share accurate information and engage respectfully online. Influencers are key in spreading this message, especially to young audiences."
Kaminzi notes that the initiative is not about controlling opinions but supporting responsible digital engagement and growing Namibia's creative sector.
"We see this as a step in the right direction for the creative industry. Influencers who participated received a token of appreciation, and we are looking into making this an ongoing initiative."
The ministry says responsible online behaviour reflects national values and helps foster a safer, more informed digital space for all Namibians.
