Prime Minister Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare inaugurated the new governance committee for the Public Service Employees Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS).

Dr. Ngurare emphasised the government’s commitment to improving the management of the scheme and enhancing healthcare services for public service employees.

The new PSEMAS Governance Committee replaces the old PSEMAS Coordinating Committee, which faced challenges such as limited expertise, weak oversight, and slow decision-making.

The reform follows the Cabinet’s approval of recommendations from the PSEMAS Review Workshop held with recognised trade unions in December 2025.

The reform also supports a directive by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah that encourages senior government officials to use state health facilities as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

The new committee includes members from government institutions, organisations representing PSEMAS members, and regulators in the health sector.
