Members of the National Assembly hosted a pre-Independence Day yesterday in celebration of 36 years of peace, stability, unity and freedom.

The MPs stood in solidarity, demonstrating that despite their political affiliations, they serve with a similar purpose: to bring prosperity to all citizens.

Some of the MPs showed up in their traditional attire for Independence Day to honour their roots, showcase cultural heritage, and express national pride.

IPC leader in the National Assembly, Immanuel Nashinge, while acknowledging the sacrifices by those whose blood waters Namibia's freedom, urged fellow MPs to continue the fight against unemployment, exclusion, and limited economic opportunities.

"We shouldn't be going to bed without making sure that we have delivered. We must move from policy announcement to measurable outcomes, from limited inclusion to broad-based economic participation, from inequality to fairness, from the many empty political promises that we make to performance, and from unchecked corruption to accountability and integrity in leadership."

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Phillipus Katamelo, emphasised that the constitution remains a beacon of hope, guiding Namibia towards a brighter future.

He urged the public to cherish national diversity and uphold the values of unity, equality and justice.

"As we celebrate this milestone, it is our nation's history and the anniversary of independence at 36 on the 21st of March, which will be Saturday. We should reflect on our journey, our achievements, our shortcomings, and the progress we have made as a nation. As leaders and public servants, we have a responsibility to uphold the values of unity, equality, and justice not only on paper, but in the true sense of our everyday life and execution of our duty."
