The defence sector has been allocated about N$7.5 billion for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi, stated that, despite projected amounts not being fully met, the estimates provided would enable the ministry to make meaningful contributions to our country's socio-economic development.

Kapofi said that moving towards the future, the ministry aims to mould the defence workforce through various capacity-building initiatives.

Combat training remains the foundation of military preparedness, as it equips soldiers with the tactical skills, physical endurance, and mental resilience required to operate effectively in demanding and hostile environments.

"Through rigorous field exercises, simulations, and operational drills, our personnel are prepared to respond decisively to threats and support peacekeeping and humanitarian missions when called upon. However, Honourable Members, modern security challenges are increasingly complex and require modern battlefield professions alone. And this is where academic training becomes equally vital."

Of the N$7.5 billion allocated to the sector, nearly N$7 billion will be directed towards operational expenses, while approximately N$600 million is earmarked for development costs.

"Its main objectives are to ensure the operational readiness of land forces through training and resource allocation, carry out regular land patrols and friendly border security, combat illegal activities, and improve response capabilities."
