The President of the National Organisation of Parents in Education (NOAPE), Paulus Hauwanga, has said the organisation will actively ensure that parents and guardians play their role in the education sector.
NAOPE is an educational body that gives parents and guardians a voice to actively participate and have a voice in their children's education.
Hauwanga said the organisation wants parents to have a voice, like teachers and students, to help improve the quality of education.
"Our organisation, NAOPE, aims to advocate for active parental involvement in our children's education by ensuring that we can participate in and support their access to schools, whether in private or public institutions, including tertiary and basic education."
He added, "Teachers have a voice through NANTU, and learners have a voice through NANSO and other student associations. However, there is currently no organisation representing parents. We are stepping in to activate those committees and ensure the delivery of quality education."
NAOPE has regional subcommittees working in towns and rural areas, encouraging parents to support education.
Member of NAOPE, Dr. Kennedy Mabuku, explained that "The current NAOPE has a subcommittee in the regions, so those regions are not only limited to towns; they also engage the rural community to ensure that at least individual parents in the rural community, as well as play a significant role in the education of their children. This is to engage them also to be an ethical member of the society, to do what is right, so that they can contribute greatly to the economy of the country."
