The ||Kharas Governor's Office Youth Desk, in partnership with Old Mutual, hosted a financial literacy skills workshop to equip Keetmanshoop youth with money-management skills.
The training focused on savings, investments, money management, avoiding debt and financial discipline.
Addressing the participants, Keetmanshoop Town Council political office bearer Emrico Blaauw said financial literacy goes beyond numbers, encompassing freedom, security and peace of mind.
"I believe this workshop will be a judgement-free zone because we all have different starting lines, and that is perfectly okay. I hope the session will include, for the facilitator, the foundations of mastering the art of the budget without feeling deprived. The growth phase involves understanding how interest can either be your greatest ally or your most formidable adversary. The safety net: learning how to protect what you earn and prepare for the unexpected. I trust by the end of the presentations, you won't just have a file full of notes, but you will be empowered."
The Governor's Youth Desk member, Sepias Mwange, highlighted the benefits of financial literacy.
"Most people think financial literacy is about getting rich. Well, that's a nice perk; there is a real purpose in much deeper meaning in its words. As I said, it reduces chronic stress. Money is one of the leading causes of anxiety and relationship friction. When you understand how money works, you stop guessing if you can afford dinner and start knowing where every dollar goes. Knowledge replaces panic with a plan."
