The Minister of Health and Social Services has clarified that officials implicated in the disappearance of medicines from the central medical store are subject to disciplinary procedures, with suspension pending investigation depending on compliance with public service regulations.

Dr. Esperance Luvindao made the clarification in the National Assembly while responding to an urgent oral question from NEFF MP Longinus Iipumbu, who raised concern over persistent shortages of medicines in public hospitals.

Iipumbu questioned why suspected officials were being moved to other projects instead of being suspended immediately, arguing that delays in action were worsening the situation in health facilities.

In response, the minister explained that suspension is not automatic and must follow established public service procedures, including the compilation of sufficient evidence.

She indicated that the ministry has initiated the necessary processes in line with these regulations.

The minister maintained that all actions taken so far are guided by due process and legal frameworks governing the public service.

But Iipumbu insisted that urgent and decisive action is required, arguing that ongoing medicine losses are directly affecting patient care across the country.

He further accused the ministry of being too slow in responding to known problems within the system.

The minister maintained that any concerns regarding procedures should be formally raised, while reiterating that the ministry remains bound by established administrative and legal requirements.
