Namibia’s junior swimming team finished 5th out of 43 nations at the 17th African Junior and Senior Swimming Championships. The team earned seven medals and set three new records, marking a strong showing for the country at the continental event.
Luke Arthur Matthew Beukes led the junior results with a silver in the 50m Freestyle and a bronze in the 100m Freestyle, where he set a new age-group record of 50.44. Beukes also set a national Open record in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 24.91. Victoria Salmina Jose De Sousa earned silver in the 200m Individual Medley and bronze in the 400m IM, while Roselinda Angel Salome Matyayi took bronze in both the 50m Butterfly and 200m Backstroke. In the relay events, Matyayi, Lilia Ellis, De Sousa, and Ainoa Naukosho won bronze in the junior girls’ 4x100m Medley.
The team also saw several top-five finishes from other swimmers. Juniors Lorenzo Ethan Esterhuizen and Ainoa Naukosho both placed 4th in their respective individual medley and backstroke events. In the senior division, Jose Nicholaas Canjulo finished 4th in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m IM, while Molina May Smalley reached four separate finals. Namibia’s total medal count was the fourth highest at the championships, placing the team ahead of many larger nations.
