The 15th edition of the NALASRA Local Authority Games will take place in Grootfontein from 25 May to 2 June, bringing together municipal workers from across Namibia for a week of sport, wellness, and unity.

After 18 years, the NALASRA Local Authority Games are set to return for their 15th edition, with Grootfontein hosting this year's event at the Omulunga Sports Stadium.

Speaking to nbc Sport, NALASRA Secretary General Gert van Wyk confirmed that 35 local authorities, including the host town, have registered to participate.

Participants will compete in several sporting codes, including netball, volleyball, tug of war, and other recreational activities.

"We are excited to host the 15th edition of the Local Authority Games in Grootfontein. A total of 35 local authorities have confirmed their participation, and spectators can expect a week of competitive action across different sporting disciplines at the Omulunga Sports Stadium." Van Wyk said.

The event also serves as a wellness initiative aimed at promoting fitness, teamwork, and stronger relations among municipal workers across the country.

Beyond sport, the tournament is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the host town.

Grootfontein Mayor Morits Gaingob said local businesses and the hospitality sector are expected to benefit from the influx of visitors during the week-long event.

"Hosting an event of this magnitude is a great opportunity for Grootfontein. The arrival of delegates from 35 local authorities will positively impact our local businesses, accommodation establishments, and other service providers. We are honoured to welcome everyone to our town." Gaingob said.

The NALASRA Local Authority Games continue to promote wellness, unity, and social interaction among local authority employees in Namibia.
