More than 5,000 runners gathered at Vegkop Stadium in Windhoek for the fourth edition of the Vivo Marathon, as participants from across the country promoted healthy living, fitness and community development.

The annual marathon attracted runners from different regions, communities and running clubs across Namibia.

This year's edition recorded a total of 5,015 participants, marking an increase from previous events and reflecting growing interest in marathon races in the country.

The marathon, hosted in partnership with the City of Windhoek, aims to encourage healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, while proceeds from registration fees will support community development initiatives in the capital.

Participants competed in four race categories: the 42-kilometre marathon, 21-kilometre half marathon, 10-kilometre race and 5-kilometre fun run.

The 10-kilometre category attracted the most participants, with about 2,500 runners.

Several participants described the marathon as a rewarding experience that tested their physical endurance and mental strength, while also expressing pride in taking part in an event that promotes unity, discipline and healthy lifestyles through sport.

Other participants highlighted challenges during the marathon, including cold weather, demanding route conditions, and competing without specialised marathon equipment.

Despite these challenges, they remained determined to complete the race.

The event also reflected growing inclusivity in Namibian sport, with participants from different backgrounds and abilities taking part.

With strong participation and growing public interest, the Vivo Marathon continues to establish itself as one of Namibia's recognised running events while contributing to community development and social wellbeing.
