The majority of patients with chronic kidney disease and acute renal failure are forced to travel long distances or rely on private facilities for life-saving dialysis.

The government has now changed the story of those in and around the Erongo Region by opening a N$1.6 million Dialysis Unit at Walvis Bay District Hospital.

The Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Suzan Ndjaleka, stated that chronic kidney disease and renal failure remain serious public health challenges, with increasing numbers of patients requiring regular dialysis treatment.

The unit is equipped with six dialysis machines alongside modern haemodialysis and water treatment systems.

The Erongo Governor, Nathalia |Goagoses says the facility has brought relief to families and restored dignity to patients who previously faced costly and time-consuming travels for treatment.

"This dialysis unit is more than a facility; it is a sanctuary of healing. It symbolises our determination to ensure that no patient is left behind, regardless of their circumstances. It is a promise that the people of Walvis Bay, and indeed the entire Erongo Region, will have access to the care they deserve."
