Residents of Keetmanshoop have questioned the legality of the Landless People's Movement's decision to withdraw former Mayor Melody Swartbooi as its representative on the Keetmanshoop Town Council.

The withdrawal resulted in Swartbooi losing her mayor position.

In their protest, residents demanded the reinstatement of Swartbooi as mayor, arguing that no reasons were cited for her withdrawal.

They also contemplate approaching the courts as well as the Anti-Corruption Commission if their demands are not met.

The protestors also cited irregular activities in the council and also called for a lifestyle audit for political office bearers and their cronies.

Both the council's administrative and political office bearers declined to receive the protestors' petition.

Attempts to get comment from the council also proved unsuccessful.

Some of the LPM's members also condemned the party's decision to recall Swartbooi and alleged failure to consult the branch executive committee.

The members further demanded that councillors Annelize Knaus and Easter Isaack, who represent the party on the Keetmanshoop Town Council, be recalled for their actions that resulted in the IPC coalition agreement breakdown.

They handed over the petition to the Keetmanshoop branch executive member, Sabatth Kohima.
