The Municipality of Swakopmund, in partnership with Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine, has officially concluded the Youth Entrepreneurial Development Initiative.

The programme has empowered a total of 85 young entrepreneurs across various business sectors.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Erongo Governor Nathalia |Goagoses described the initiative as a major milestone in youth development, aimed at transforming innovative ideas into sustainable enterprises.

The programme attracted 2,489 applications, from which 85 beneficiaries were selected.

54 beneficiaries had already received support, with the remaining entrepreneurs completing the programme at the closing event.

Equipment valued at N$1 million were distributed among the beneficiaries.

"The future prosperity of the Erongo Region and Namibia depends on our ability to unlock the potential of our young people. Programmes such as YEDI demonstrate that when government, local authorities, the private sector, and communities work together, we can create opportunities that change lives and strengthen our economy. Let us therefore continue to invest in our youth, support entrepreneurship, and build an economy that is inclusive, innovative, and sustainable."

She emphasised the initiative is not only about financial support but also about creating opportunities and restoring the hope and potential of young people.

Also speaking at the event, the Mayor of Swakopmund, Suamma Kautondokwa, said the programme reflects the municipality's commitment to fostering an enabling environment for youth development and entrepreneurship.

"As a municipality, we remain steadfast in our belief that the future prosperity of our town, our region, and our country rests in the hands of our young people. It is therefore our duty to foster an enabling environment in which they are able to develop their talents, pursue their aspirations, and contribute meaningfully to economic growth and community advancement."
