For 50 years, Rossing Uranium has remained one of Namibia's leading mining companies, creating jobs, supporting economic growth and contributing to community development.

Over the past five decades, Rossing Uranium has grown into one of Namibia's most important mining operations, with its success built on strong partnerships and the support of different stakeholders.

Speaking at a stakeholders' gala in Swakopmund, Managing Director Johan Coetzee thanked government, business partners and others who have helped the mine operate successfully over the years.

"Without our national, regional and local government we couldn't do it. If they didn't work with us, create the space for us to operate, and guide us on what we can do and cannot do, we couldn't have done it at all. Our contractors, our business partners, you've grown with us. Some of you have been with us for 50 years; without you, we also couldn't have done it. And the media."

Vice President of China National Nuclear Corporation Yongshun Liang said Rossing Uranium has made an important contribution to the Erongo Region and Namibia's economy through job creation, skills development and investment in local communities.

"Rossing is more than a mine. It has played a vital role in the development of the Erongo region and is an important contributor to the Namibian economy. Since production began in 1976, it has created jobs, developed local talent, supported local businesses, and invested in community development. These 50 years have taught us that the value of a mine is not only in what is produced but also in the long-term benefits it brings to the country, the region and local communities."

Erongo Regional Council Chairperson Lazarus Kanelombe said the mine has had a lasting impact on the region by creating opportunities for families, supporting education and helping local businesses grow.

"Rossing is more than a mine. It is a neighbour, it is a partner, and it is a part of our story. For five decades, generations of families have built their lives around this operation. Parents have raised children through opportunities created here. Young people have received education and training that open doors they may never imagine. Local businesses have grown through partnership with the mine."

As Rossing Uranium celebrates its 50th anniversary, stakeholders say the company's legacy goes beyond uranium production, highlighting its long-term contribution to Namibia's economy, local businesses and communities.
