Nanghonda Combined School was crowned champions after defeating Epoli Combined School 1-0 in the inaugural Ondeikela Combined School Tournament, hosted at Ondeikela village in the Ohangwena Region.

Located in Omulonga Constituency of Ohangwena Region, Ondeikela Combined School hosted its first-ever school tournament, bringing together more than 30 schools from the Ongha and Otunanganga circuits to compete in soccer and netball.

The tournament attracted schools from across Ohangwena and neighboring regions, aiming to foster youth development, promote physical activity among learners, and encourage community involvement in sports.

The highlight of the event was the soccer final between Nanghonda Combined School and Epoli Combined School. Both teams fought hard for the trophy, but Nanghonda emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win. The champions walked away with a trophy, N$2,000 in prize money, and 16 gold medals.

Speaking after the final, Ondeikela Combined School Principal Norbert Shilongo admitted the tournament had been long overdue due to logistical challenges. He expressed pride in finally hosting the event and pledged to continue promoting sports activities.

Shilongo commended the organizers for going above and beyond to stage the tournament, and praised the community and fellow school principals for allowing their learners to participate.

Meanwhile, Nanghonda Combined School coach Efraim KaKehongo said his team often struggles to progress in tournaments, but this victory proves the progress made through hard work and dedication.

Looking ahead, Principal Shilongo promised to improve the tournament by engaging sponsors and stakeholders earlier, increasing prize money, and introducing female soccer in the second edition next year.
