Namibia has been selected to host the 2028 International Network of Basin Organisations World Basin Summit, a milestone for the country's growing reputation in sustainable water management and climate adaptation.
The announcement was made at the conclusion of the 2026 INBO World Basin Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The selection recognises the country's leadership in innovative water solutions and highlights Africa's increasing influence in global discussions on water governance and security.
Held every two years, the INBO World Basin Summit brings together ministers, policymakers, scientists and water experts from around the world to discuss challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, floods, droughts and trans-boundary water cooperation.
Hosting the 2028 Summit will provide Namibia with an opportunity to showcase its internationally recognised expertise in potable water reclamation and integrated water resources management.
The event is also expected to boost tourism, attract investment and promote scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform's spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said the ministry will work closely with local and international partners to ensure the successful hosting of the summit and strengthen global cooperation towards sustainable water management.
