The Omuthiya District Hospital in the Oshikoto Region, which was reported to be out of dental medication, has now received new stock.

Lignocaine, the medication used to numb the gum before tooth extraction, is finally back in stock after being unavailable for nearly a month.

This was confirmed by Oshikoto Regional Health Director Josua Nghipangelwa, who said there is currently 80 percent of dental medication in stock at the Omuthiya District Hospital.

Patients Ndinaomukulili Kandume and Sartiel Shimwandi have described it as a relief, commending the ministry for procuring the medication.

"Now, the medication is available; before, we were constantly told that there was no medication. It was a sad and painful situation, but now we are happy, and we thank the government."

"It is good that we now have the medication back in stock, because this will help the patients and public who need it."

Oshikoto Regional Health Director Josua Nghipangelwa told NBC News that the first medication stock was received in June and the fourth stock was received earlier this month.

"We have adequate stock; the first stock was received on the 9th June, the second on the 30th June and the third and fourth stocks received on the 3rd and 6th July. The current situation in terms of medication in Oshikoto Region: the most critical medical items are back in stock; we have 80% of hypertension drugs, 90% of dental medication, 80% for eye care services and 70% for mental conditions, among others."

The director, however, says no condom stock has been received in the region yet.

Nghipangelwa further calls on the public who make use of state health facilities in the Oshikoto Region to continue seeking medical assistance at hospitals, adding that the shortage of most medications has been addressed and areas are now available.
